The International Leadership Academy of Ethiopia (ILAE) is an innovative college preparatory boarding and day school founded by Haddis Tadesse, Country Representative to Ethiopia for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ILAE works to develop a generation of leaders who will transform Ethiopia by offering a global education that nurtures students to discover their purpose, challenges them to think critically, empowers them to set and surpass their own standards and inspires them to transform Ethiopia.

Most ILAE students will pay no tuition and will come from underserved urban and rural areas, but are selected for their academic and leadership potential. Opening in September, 2013 with an inaugural class of 50-100 ninth grade students, ILAE will add an additional ninth grade class each successive year. Students will learn from a curriculum informed by Ethiopia’s national curriculum, the student-centered learning and an integrated Humanities curriculum of the Northwest School (ILAE’s partner school in the United States), traditional Ethiopian educational and cultural values, and best practices from around the world. Their experiences at ILAE will prepare them for a lifetime of social responsibility and international leadership.
